A DAMN FINE SOURCE FOR COFFEE
The WDC TNT blog came into existence in October of 2009. The first post was made by DC alum Katie Duris advertising the inaugural ‘Latte Art Throwdown’ being held at the Counter Culture Coffee Training Center. For the past 3 years, this blog has served as a place to find out everything you need to know about TNTs in the area, local baristas competing in the USBC, and the occasional coffee party. The ‘about us’ section said it all;
“Thursday Night Throwdown, TNT, is a community building event. Our goal is to come together once a month as coffee professionals and enthusiasts, of all different kinds, and share our mutual love for all things coffee. TNT is the brainchild of our friends at Octane Coffee. They did an excellent job creating a space that breaks the barista, customer, roaster, barriers and brings people together. We were so inspired, we thought we’d bring the project to Washington, DC. Like Octane, we hope to meet new people, make new friends, and share our love for coffee.”
DC is home to one of the strongest coffee communities in the US and I think it is safe to say we can applaud the introduction of TNTs for catering the success. I joined the TNT team last summer (alongside Judith Mandel and Christy Baugh) and have seen the interest spike parallel to our blog’s activity. We have decided to take that enthusiasm and expand on the WDC TNT site.
Meet DMV Coffee; An old blog with a new look. Our focus is still to bring TNTs to DC every month but we are not going to stop there. In addition to TNTs we are looking forward to bringing more coffee events (Cup Taster’s Challenge & Brew Down), a professional cupping series (Guat. Cupping, le nez du cafe), and varying coffee columns (How-To Tech Guides, new shop openings, editorials, etc).
Our first big event will be the Guatemala Cupping Monday, June 25 at the Counter Culture Coffee Training Center. We will have Guatemalan coffees from a variety of roasters around the US to taste and discuss. Also, Christy brings us her recap of Camp Pull a Shot, which she attended last week with a handful of DC coffee pros. Be on the lookout for more posts and please send us feedback on what you would like to see in the future. Thanks for supporting us over the years!
